Massachusetts Ends the COVID-19 Paid Sick Program

On May 28, 2021, Governor Charlie Baker signed into law legislation requiring public and private Massachusetts employers to provide up to forty (40) hours of paid leave of up to $850 for COVID-19 reasons.  The law provided for reimbursement by the State of the $850.  Although the Program was supposed to expire on the same date as the Federal COVID-19 Sick Leave Law on September 30, 2021, the State extended it to April 2022.

Because the reimbursement of funds account has run out of money, the Program has been ended as of March 15, 2022 by the Commonwealth.

Employers have until April 29, 2022 to file with the State for the reimbursement by the State for such leave payments by the employer up to $850 for each employee taking such leave.
