WORCESTER, MA, October 15, 2026 –Seder & Chandler, LLP announces that Michael Downey has joined the firm’s Labor & Employment practice as a Senior Associate. Downey advises employers on labor and employment matters including collective bargaining, contract negotiations, workplace accommodations, employee discipline, litigation and general personnel issues. He also conducts workplace investigations into harassment, discrimination and conflict complaints.

Downey joins Seder & Chandler from one of New England’s oldest and largest management-side employment law firms, where he focused on labor and employment matters. Prior to that, he was Deputy Labor Counsel in the Executive Office of the Massachusetts Trial Court. There he handled complex labor matters and advised on union relations, collective bargaining, management rights and other workforce issues.

I’m excited to join Seder & Chandler’s Labor & Employment practice and to work alongside Demitrios Moschos,” said Downey. “D Moschos has negotiated more than 700 labor contracts and helped draft the laws that govern public sector bargaining in Massachusetts. For someone who has spent his career at the bargaining table, the chance to work with him and support the firm’s clients is a great opportunity.”

“Michael brings a valuable combination of hands-on labor relations experience, litigation skills and practical employment counsel to our clients,” said Seder & Chandler Managing Partner Robert Adler. “His experience working directly with employers and unions gives him a strong understanding of the challenges organizations face in managing their workforces. He is a terrific addition to our Labor & Employment practice.”

Downey counsels employers on matters involving the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), Massachusetts Wage Act, and state and federal discrimination laws. As a litigator, he has represented clients before labor arbitrators, the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination (MCAD), Massachusetts Civil Service Commission and Department of Labor Relations (DLR), as well as in state and federal courts.

Previously, Downey served for several years as Associate Town Counsel for the Town of Brookline, where he was the town’s sole labor and employment attorney. He managed labor relations with the town’s unions, oversaw grievance and arbitration proceedings, served as lead negotiator in collective bargaining, and advised town officials on employee discipline, internal complaints and other labor and employment matters. Earlier in his career, Downey served as lead counsel on behalf of the Human Resources Division of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
