James L. O’Connor is an experienced attorney whose practice spans complex civil litigation, appellate, bankruptcy, and business law matters. His expertise and dedication to advocacy make him a trusted legal advisor for individuals and businesses alike.
In his litigation practice. Mr. O’Connor focuses on family business breakups, contract disputes, torts, land disputes, and landlord/tenant matters. Mr. O’Connor has also successfully handled appeals before the United States Court of Appeals, the United States District Court (Bankruptcy Appeals), the United States Bankruptcy Appellate Panel, the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court, and the Massachusetts Appeals Court.
In addition to civil litigation, Mr. O’Connor has an extensive background in bankruptcy law, representing debtors, creditors, and trustees in the United States Bankruptcy Court. His work includes handling business Chapter 11 cases, consumer Chapter 13 cases, Chapter 7 proceedings for both businesses and consumers, as well as adversary proceedings and contested matters.
Mr. O’Connor provides counsel on business and transactional matters, assisting clients with business formations, succession planning, sales and acquisitions, real estate transfers and leases, and commercial contracts. He previously represented the Massachusetts Department of Revenue before the Massachusetts Appellate Tax Board and the United States Bankruptcy Court.
Prior to joining Seder & Chandler, Mr. O’Connor served as a partner at Nickless, Phillips & O’Connor in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, and previously served as Tax Counsel for the Massachusetts Department of Revenue handling complex tax and bankruptcy matters. Before his legal career, Mr. O’Connor built a strong financial background as a Commercial Loan Officer and Assistant Vice President at Shawmut Bank N.A. and BayBank Middlesex.
