Trial date set in Kardashian and Humphries’ divorce

For many Worcester residents, divorce may be one of the most difficult things in life to face. Partners are faced with splitting up their marital property, debts and decisions must be made on issues such as alimony, child custody and visitation. The experience of a Central Massachusetts family law attorney is essential, especially if your divorce involves contested divorce proceedings.

One reality star who knows all too well the importance of having an experienced family law attorney is Kim Kardashian. A trial date has finally been set in the drawn-out divorce between the reality star and NBA basketball player, Kris Humphries. The trial will begin on May 6, 2013, and is set to last for five days. Both parties will have several witnesses testify on their behalf.

Humphries had previously been trying to delay the proceedings, while a pregnant Kardashian pushed for an expedited trial date. Kardashian has made claims that Humphries has essentially held her hostage by dragging on the divorce proceedings. Humphries responded by arguing his professional basketball schedule would make it difficult for an earlier date. His legal team also argued that additional time to prepare for trial was needed since Humphries has alleged fraud in the divorce.

There are no reports on a potential settlement between the parties at this point. Both Kardashian and Humphries will be back in court on April 12, 2013, however, for a mandatory settlement conference. While parties to a divorce often settle matters to avoid the cost and stress of litigation, settlement is not always possible. In such cases, litigants depend on the experience and expertise of their legal counsel to protect their interests in the courtroom.
